Dear Readers,
It’s time for me to call it. This newsletter is over. There are two reasons:
First of all, I don’t like hanging out with Nazis. This is a nice useable interface with a bunch of convenient functions, but I promised years ago I’d never make racists feel comfortable around me. So this is not the site for me.
Once of the handy functions of this site involves letting you download a subscriber list. I could move us all to some other site. I am sure they’re out there.
But I have been having more and more trouble writing about COVID without being unappealingly bleak. Public health failed, global health failed. Individually, we have let down the most vulnerable segments of our planet because we hate the inconvenience of wearing a mask. And systemically, we just haven’t done what needs doing. Where is the improved ventilation, so everyone doesn’t depend on masking for safety? Where are our nasal vaccines?
I am part of the failed system and I don’t feel like me yelling away to people who already care about COVID is helping anyone.
If I find a new venue, and some kind of inspiration, I’ll let you all know. Otherwise, thanks for coming along with me. I treasured every subscriber.
xoxo
Alanna
Alanna, I wrote to you via email but I’m not exactly sure if you’d receive it so I am writing here as well: Thank you so much for this newsletter and your efforts - your writing meant so much to me when everyone around me had stopped caring about COVID and I was literally the last mask standing among my friends and the Swedish public (who, along with the government, never cared much in the first place). You were a validating voice of reason and data in the dumpster fire of the COVID information landscape and I truly appreciated all of your emails.
I’d love to follow along for what you write next and thank you.
Be of good heart. Pause, breath, regroup. The problems and risks are huge and hugely destructive. Your energy, concern and input are still needed. When it is possible join an advocacy group to get support and contribute to the honest advocacy for public health and the common welfare. There is strength in numbers. In the end the truth and reality always win. A million died in the USA, many from distortion of policy and truth. We will not join them.
