The Vibe Shift
Right now - what we’re seeing is a vibe shift. A global realignment. Life on this planet is starting to mean something different. Every year since 2020 something new burns on a massive scale. The Amazon rainforest, the Australian outback, every damn forest in Canada. Also, earthquakes in new places, hurricanes in locations they've never hit before, and snowstorms at the wrong time.
It’s not an apocalypse yet, but it’s getting very weird out there. And honestly there seems to be very little we can do about it. Voting and donating and protesting - that might lead to slow aggregate change. The planetary change we’re witnessing in front of us is not slow.
So we feel helpless. Because mostly we are helpless. But guess what else is happening among the wildfires, the mass extinctions and the weird algae blooms?
Now we all have an unknown degree of risk of catching a disabling disease just by going about our ordinary lives. Just existing in the regular world has gotten a lot more dangerous. But in the middle of this global vibe shift the potentially disabling virus in all its alphabetical variant glory gets kinda lost in the noise. What even are we supposed to do?
The vibe shift - it’s nihilism.
I’m still wearing a mask in public places. If I wasn’t monogamous I’d still wear a condom every time I had sex. I wear a seatbelt in the car. I wear sunscreen on the daily. This might be an apocalypse kind of vibe but at least I’m gonna try. If you are trying too - I am on your team. We’re a small team but we exist.
HIV changed life as we knew it because HIV was the vibe shift. The sex is now dangerous kind of vibe shift.
Covid on the other hand. Covid is getting lost in the noise. And nihilism is always in style.
