January 2023 will see a spike in COVID hospitalizations and deaths resulting from holiday gatherings and the new XBB variant. Just like we saw a huge spike in January 2022 resulting from holiday gatherings and the last new variant.
Some B or C list celebrity will be hospitalized for COVID, triggering a whole series of “COVID, who knew it was still here?” articles in minor publications. Bustle will share a slideshow of the top five celebrities you didn’t know recovered from COVID.
China will see a million people die of COVID. The Chinese government may or may not report those deaths accurately. (I need to point out here that the US has already had a million people die of COVID, and our population is less than a quarter of China’s.)
The US trend of higher COVID deaths in red states vs blue states will get even worse. It will start affecting elections in increasingly un-subtle ways. But no political candidate will talk about it.
We’ll start seeing evidence that conclusively indicates COVID harms the immune system. If other words, we’ll find out that if you’ve had COVID, it weakens your immune system. Maybe just for a few years, maybe forever. The data are already pointing that way, but the evidence will get stronger next year and years after that. But we’ll all keep talking about immune debt instead of facing facts.

I had to look up "immune debt". I admit, not reading deeply about that phrase, but I think I get it. (It kind of fits with folks who make the case - We were all a lot (biologically) stronger when we used to eat dirt and drink water from streams. So we should embrace the disease - and - Get Stronger. (Am I on the right track?)
